A Sweet Crush

Sweet ; Yotam Ottolenghi and Helen Goh

Co-written by Yotam Ottolenghi and pastry chef Helen Goh, Sweet brings together over a hundred recipes for treats. The crush happens while browsing in a bookshop. The cover already promises the best. Its creamy pink and pearly white make you want to open the book. Page after page, the surprise is complete: a new world of indulgence opens up. The London chef is still unknown at that point, which makes the discovery even more exciting. Every photo makes you dream, every recipe makes you want to start baking. Without a second thought, the book heads to the checkout.

Two Authors, Two Worlds

Born in Jerusalem, Yotam Ottolenghi moved to London in the late 1990s. There he opened his famous delis, with windows overflowing with colourful salads and generous cakes. His books Plenty and Jerusalem then went around the world. Helen Goh, a Malaysian-born pastry chef based in Australia, joined his team to develop the house’s sweets. Their collaboration gave birth to Sweet. Biscuits, loaf cakes, meringues, tarts and cheesecakes sit side by side, with flavours often inspired by the Middle East.

Sweet ; Tips for Getting Started

A pastry book should first be read in full, before heading to the kitchen. Weighing ingredients precisely often makes all the difference. Butter and eggs at room temperature also make preparation easier. It is best to start with the simplest recipes, such as biscuits or loaf cakes. More elaborate creations come later. For more inspiration, Simplement Suisse (in French) explores Swiss local produce.

Sweet ; Pastry Is for Sharing

Once at home, one thing is clear: this book deserves to be shared on the blog. No sooner said than done: the camera captures its most beautiful pages. Sweet is an incredible source of inspiration. A few recipes will soon come to life in the kitchen!
