Mondays don’t always have a good reputation. But on this Monday, 20 November 2017, impatience wins: a new masterclass awaits at the Beau-Rivage Palace in Lausanne. The invitation comes from the bartender, after a first masterclass devoted to Larusée absinthe (in French). The place, of rare elegance, never fails to make you dream. In the afternoon, conversations start at the palace’s BAR (in French) with the first guests. Among them, Chris, here to present his famous pisco.

La Perúana ; Pisco at Home

Pisco lends itself to many cocktails that are easy to make at home. The chilcano, very popular in Peru, combines pisco, ginger ale and lime. Served over ice, it is fresh and sparkling. Pisco can also be enjoyed neat, at room temperature, to appreciate its aromas. For more recipe ideas, Keydcocktails (in French) regularly shares his creations.

An Exceptional Masterclass

The afternoon continues with new discoveries: two cocktails showcase pisco. Each reveals the subtleties of this spirit. The bartender balanced these elixirs perfectly. One is soft and sweet, the other slightly drier. A perfect contrast.

The Pisco Sour ; Peru’s National Cocktail

Pisco takes its name from a port on Peru’s southern coast. Spanish settlers distilled grape wine there from the 16th century. Its most famous cocktail remains the pisco sour. The recipe combines pisco, lime juice, sugar syrup and egg white. A few drops of Angostura bitters decorate the foam. Peru even dedicates a national day to it, every first Saturday of February. Fresh and tangy, this classic reveals all the finesse of the brandy.

The masterclass is coming to an end, but one last surprise awaits the participants: a small bottle of pisco as a gift. An unexpected present, and a unique souvenir of this experience. Above all, an excellent excuse to dream up a few pisco cocktails at home. A way to relive this discovery through new creations.
