The Ta Cave wine bar, a classic and effective bar.
Ta Cave
A Wine Bar Hidden under the Station
Some places are so small that you almost have to search for a long time before finding them. That’s the case with Ta Cave, the blog’s new favourite. This little wine bar is hidden just below Lausanne station.
Even before sitting down, the shopfront, the decor and the furniture are charming. Special mention for the vintage pink fan, much appreciated in this heat! Once seated, all eyes are on the large blackboard that serves as a menu. Every line is tempting, which is rare enough to be worth mentioning. After a long hesitation, the sommelier takes charge. The only instruction: go for white, as I have yet to find a convincing red.

Vaud Wine in a Few Words
The canton of Vaud is one of Switzerland’s great wine regions. Chasselas reigns supreme there and produces fresh, mineral white wines. The vineyards are spread across La Côte, Lavaux, the Chablais and the lakeshores. The Lavaux terraces have even been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2007. A Lausanne wine bar is the ideal place to discover these local wines.

Ta Cave ; Platters, Wines and Crowdfunding
The choice falls on a glass of rather sweet white, enough to delight those with a sweet tooth. My friend for the evening, just as greedy, opts for the same. To keep hunger at bay, the blackboard offers a tempting selection. On one side, a small goat’s cheese with lime, with original flavours. On the other, some cold cuts. It all arrives on a pretty wooden board and goes perfectly with the wine.
The tasting is a chance to learn the story of the place. Opened in 2015, Ta Cave is the very first wine bar in Switzerland financed by crowdfunding. Anyone could take part in the financing online. A great idea, which almost makes you wish you had taken part in the project!

Once the tasting is over, it’s time for a few photos, with a nice set-up around the glass. The last piece of cheese disappears, with the promise to come back soon. Rarely has an address been so appealing from the very first visit. For an evening, you feel a little at home there. And for a coffee the next morning, Sleepy Bear Coffee (in French) is just around the corner.
