A Tour of the Production Greenhouses
After discovering the Christmas decorations at Schilliger Garden Center (in French), it is time for a tour of the greenhouses. It is often overlooked, but behind the Gland complex lie vast growing areas and greenhouses. They house the plants, herbs and shrubs the company grows. These spaces are two to three times larger than the shop floor. Enough to work in optimal conditions. The tour begins with several expanses of flowers. The company itself produces 80% of the seasonal plants and 35% of the nursery plants sold in store.
The work takes place in several stages. Unsold plants end up as compost, for optimal recycling. At Schilliger, nothing is lost: the company uses its products one hundred per cent. This represents a colossal amount of work, involving several trades. Throughout the tour, the staff’s passion can be felt.

Two hours of touring is enough to learn a lot about production, quality guarantees and collections. Schilliger Garden Center offers one of the largest choices of plant varieties in Switzerland. Some exclusives can only be found in its shops.

Once the guided tour is over, the stroll continues through the shop. The spring collection proves truly inspiring. Aisle after aisle, the longing for sunshine grows. Outside, the cleverly displayed plants are just as appealing. Every corner brings its share of ideas to welcome the sunny days. The different shades of green let the imagination soar.

Making Your Balcony Bloom in Spring
To enjoy these ideas at home, a few simple steps are enough. Tulip, daffodil and hyacinth bulbs bring the first colours. Frost-sensitive plants wait until mid-May, after the Ice Saints, to go outside. Aromatic herbs easily find their place in small pots near the kitchen. Playing with heights gives the arrangement depth. Finally, good potting soil and regular watering make all the difference. For outdoor inspiration, the Geneva Botanical Garden (in French) also offers a lovely green walk.
