An Initiative by Mélanie Tanner

A breast cancer survivor, Mélanie Tanner launched the Carac Rose initiative in 2022. She puts her experience and marketing skills at the service of prevention among young women. Each pastry sold raises 50 centimes for one of the partner associations. These organisations support women affected by cancer and their loved ones.

At the first edition, three confectioners joined the operation. The following year, the movement grew and brought together a hundred participating addresses. The 35,000 pieces sold then raised 17,500 francs for the OSE Thérapies association. In 2024, the operation reached a new milestone with 250 participating addresses across Switzerland. Every October, the wave of solidarity begins again.

The carac is one of the iconic sweet specialities of Vaud’s heritage. This pastry combines a shortcrust base, a chocolate filling and a layer of icing. Originally from French-speaking Switzerland, it is particularly popular in the canton of Vaud. Its melting texture and chocolate taste make it an ideal treat for a coffee break. Its traditional green icing is part of its visual identity. For the occasion, it turns pink as a reminder of the Pink October campaign.

The carac is one of the favourite treats of lovers of Vaud sweets. In October, this speciality takes on a special dimension. Each bite lets you treat yourself while supporting a good cause. A charitable treat to contribute, on your own scale, to the fight against breast cancer. For other local sweets, the chocolate shops of Lausanne (in French) also hold lovely surprises.
