The Crayon Tower, a Symbol of Lyon
Opened in 1977, the Part-Dieu tower dominates Lyon’s business district. Its rounded shape, topped with a pyramid, earned it the nickname “Crayon” (pencil). For a long time, it was the tallest tower in the city. Its top floors house a hotel, which runs Celest. From the top, the view takes in Fourvière, the Saône and the Rhône. On clear days, Mont Blanc even appears on the horizon.
Celest ; Good to Know
Celest is at the top of the Part-Dieu tower, a few minutes from the station. The best time to go up is at the end of the day, at sunset. The city then gradually lights up before your eyes. Booking a table by the windows lets you make the most of the view. For a full day in Lyon, Slake Coffee House (in French) serves brunch in the city centre.

Lyon from Above
Lyon always has lovely surprises for those who like exploring its corners. Seen from afar or up close, the Crayon tower inevitably arouses curiosity. On a perfectly clear day, it was the ideal opportunity to discover it from the inside. The view promised to be magnificent: off to Celest.

Inside, the atmosphere is pleasant. Gazing at the city from above, an aperitif and then a cocktail in hand, is a real pleasure. Every detail is savoured, and every moment strengthens the bond with this much-loved city. In Lyon, Slake Coffee House (in French) serves brunch near Place des Jacobins. The Musée Cinéma et Miniature (in French) is also well worth a visit.
