In the Bernese Oberland, the Blausee invites you to walk around a mountain lake with deep blue waters, even in winter.
The Blausee ; A Bernese Mountain Lake
The Blausee is among the most famous lakes in Switzerland. Its crystal-clear waters attract visitors in every season.
A Natural Jewel of the Bernese Oberland
The Blausee, literally “Blue Lake” in German, lies at 887 metres above sea level in the Kander Valley. Nestled in the municipality of Kandergrund, it is one of the natural jewels of the Bernese Oberland. Formed nearly 15,000 years ago after a landslide, this lake fascinates with its crystal-clear waters. Their shades range from blue-green to deep blue. A Zurich merchant acquired the site in 1878. The development of the Lötschberg tunnel and the road network then enhanced it in the 20th century. The lake thus became a must-see tourist destination. In the heart of a twenty-hectare forest nature park, it offers immersion in an unspoilt alpine setting. The walk proves peaceful in every season.

The Blue Lake ; A Basin at 887 Metres
The Blue Lake owes its fame to the exceptional purity of its waters. Boat rides, a nature park and gastronomy complete the visit.
The Blausee ; A Tourist Destination
A true tourist icon of the Bernese Oberland, the site charms with the purity of its turquoise waters. In summer, a glass-bottomed boat glides silently across the lake. Rocks and submerged tree trunks then appear at depths of up to 12 metres. The illusion of floating above a magical setting is striking. Fed by underground springs in the Kandertal, the lake owes its intense colour to exceptional clarity. The light is captured there in spectacular fashion.
Around the lake, an enchanting nature park invites a stroll. Gorges, forest trails, playgrounds and picnic spots punctuate the visit. The Wasserhaus offers a gourmet break facing the lake. Right next door, the Blausee hotel extends the experience in the heart of nature. Well-being, gastronomy and a poetic atmosphere come together here. According to legend, a young girl lost her beloved, a shepherd who fell from a rock face. Inconsolable, she returned every night to weep by the lake. Her tears, shed from deep blue eyes, are said to have given the water its unique colour. This romantic story makes the place even more fascinating.

The Blausee ; A Swiss Cliché
Often associated with Swiss clichés, the lake nonetheless holds a lovely surprise. Its deep blue water is enough to convince the most sceptical.
A Bucolic Swiss Postcard
Long driven past without stopping, the Blausee surprises from the entrance, despite a few preconceptions. The walk around the lake is quick. The visit is therefore best combined with another activity in the Bernese Oberland, such as a trip to Lauterbrunnen (in French). The experience is nonetheless pleasant and deeply bucolic. The almost unreal blue water immediately catches the eye and invites contemplation. Between forest, crystal-clear reflections and a peaceful atmosphere, the place offers a simple and soothing moment. This nature interlude proves as photogenic as it is charming.
